Des Plaines, IL (November 10, 2025) The GIS Certification Institute is pleased to welcome Dr. Robert Stewart to the GISCI Board of Directors. Dr. Stewart serves as Section Head for Human Dynamics within the Geospatial Science and Human Security Division at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. In addition to leading interdisciplinary teams specializing in population modeling, location intelligence, critical infrastructure resiliency, geoinformatics, and geospatial data modeling, Dr. Stewart’s research focuses on geospatial analytics, artificial intelligence, risk assessment, and decision-making under uncertainty.
With 30 years of experience, Dr. Stewart has authored over 85 publications and developed operational tools used across public, private, and governmental sectors. He actively serves on several national and international panels, is a Fellow of the American Association of Geographers, and is an editorial board member for Transactions in GIS and the International Journal of Geographical Information Science. Additionally, he is the Vice President-Elect for IEEE CIS Industry and Government Affairs and holds a Joint Faculty position at the University of Tennessee’s Bredesen Center Ph.D. Program.
Robert’s term on the Board began in October 2025 and will run for three years, replacing Clancy Wilmott, who previously served as one of AAG’s two representatives. The GISCI Board of Directors is excited to have Robert on board and looks forward to working with him.
