Demetrio Zourarakis

The GISCI Board is composed of individuals who each bring their unique experience and style to the board. Demetrio Zourarakis is no exception. His thoughtful questions and insights regularly add depth and context to discussions, drawing on three decades of GIS experience in academia and agencies across the Commonwealth of Kentucky. He is a geospatial contractor with the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service in Kentucky, and he helps train the next generation as an adjunct professor at the University of Kentucky and a visiting lecturer at Kentucky State University, where he is developing remote sensing and GIS curriculum.

As a respected member of the geospatial community, Demetrio generously gives back by volunteering his time and expertise to several organizations. He’s currently Past President of the Kentucky Association of Mapping Professionals (KAMP) and has served ASPRS as chair of its Education and Professional Development Committee and as president of its Mid-South Region.

Demetrio has served on the GISCI Board of Directors since 2024, representing ASPRS, and earlier this year he was named an ASPRS Fellow, one of the society’s highest honors. We’re grateful for his steady, thoughtful presence on the GISCI Board.
