Karen Schuckman Before Karen Schuckman became a leader in the geospatial field, she was a sixteen-year-old alternate on the 1972 U.S. Olympic gymnastics team, and went on to become Penn State’s first female All-American gymnast.

That same drive has defined her geospatial career, from the USGS National Mapping Division and leadership roles at EarthData, to leading FEMA disaster response mapping after Hurricanes Katrina, Rita, and Wilma. And now in her current role as ASPRS’s Executive Director as well as head of her own consulting practice, Karen is a true leader in the industry.

Karen was appointed to the GISCI Board in 2024 as one of ASPRS’s representatives. As a certified GISP, licensed Land Surveyor, ASPRS Certified Photogrammetrist, and Certified Mapping Scientist (Lidar), she brought a unique practitioner’s eye to our certification programs. As her term on the GISCI Board comes to an end, we’re truly grateful for the insights and experience she brought to the Board.

Karen is a true champion for the geospatial community and we look forward to her continued dedication to the profession.
